Bonspiels

Club bonspiels open to guests are listed on the OCA web site. Our season begins with the Labatt Mixed in late November, a pot luck event with an interesting annual theme. In January, the ladies will take to the ice for the Fourth Annual Denise Parise Memorial Bonspiel, while the men play in the Molsons Bonspiel on the 15th.

February features two events with a regional theme – a two day mixed event sponsored by the Muskoka Lakes Association, and a Men’s event two weeks later. The Men’s event sends curlers to various clubs in the region : Mactier, Bala, Baysville, Huntsville, Gravenhurst and Port Carling; with the finals back at South Muskoka in Bracebridge. It’s a great way to make new friends and a real test of how well you can adapt to the different ice conditions and speeds. Teams are encouraged to include at least one beginner curler.

Our famous Spring Fling occurs in early April and gives the Ladies a great weekend of fun and frivolity.

The Club’s most competitive spiel is the Sportsmen’s, held in late March. Twenty-four men’s teams play down over three days for eight playoff spots and four flight championships. In 2008 this event featured Team France skipped by Thomas Dufour, who finished with a 6-5 record at the Ford Mens World Championships the following week in North Dakota. The event is traditionally filled by returning teams, but we do maintain a waiting list.
