Orillia Team Captures Top Title

The 2010 Men’s Muskoka Lakes Bonspiel took place at curling clubs around the region from Thursday February 25th until Saturday the 27th. Games were played in Bala, Baysville, Huntsville, MacTier, Port Carling, and in Bracebridge at South Muskoka.

First year entrant Marshall Thompson of Orillia ran the table with 5 consecutive wins, the last over South Muskoka’s Doug Cross rink, to win the “A” Flight and the Ecclestone Trophy.

Huntvsille’s Carl Seymour posted a 4-1 record and beat Gord Clemens of Port Carling CC for the “B” division championship and the Borntraeger Trophy. Also posting a 4-1 record was the Al Bourgeois team from Parry Sound , and they were rewarded with the “C” Flight Book trophy, edging South Muskoka’s Howard Nelson in the final game.

John Hummel of South Muskoka C&GC led his team to a 3-2 record, good for the “D” Championship and the Duke Brothers Trophy. He bested Huntsville’s Larry Ross in the final game.

Bob Pollard of Gravenhurst, Andy Nelan and Ted Gardner from South Muskoka C&GC, and Bob Lacroix of Baysville all lead their teams to victory in the “E” and “F” turkey flights!

The Men’s Muskoka Lakes bonspiel has been running since the 1930′s. The 2010 edition was another successful weekend featuring some great curling, sportsmanship, and socializing throughout Muskoka.
