Ayotte Wins CJGA Ames Cup Qualifier
Michael Ayotte of Whitby didn’t let Saturday’s tough, rainy conditions throw him off his game, as he posted a tidy score of 2 over par 74, and then followed that up with an even par 72 on Sunday to win the boys section of the CJGA Stephen Ames Cup Qualifier. The event is an annual 2 day tournament held at South Muskoka, and as it falls on Father’s Day weekend includes a father and son/daughter competition which is a unique feature of the tournament.
Alex Dumais of Caledon East, Ontario was Boy’s runner up with a fine score of 76/72 for 148 while Mississauga’s Hailey Ingleson won the Girls Division with a 164 total.
Berny Nymyer and daughter Lee Anne, of Stratford, won the Father/Child competition by shooting 80/79 for an excellent 159 total.
Several golfers from CJGA’s Ontario ranks will participate in the annual Stepehn Ames Cup, a competition which pits Canadian Junior golfers against juniors from Ames birthplace of Trinidad & Tobago, with proceeds going to further Junior golf programmes in both countries.
